@birr This broke when you had an np.int32? And was fixed/circumvented by this quick-fix?

Yes to both questions, I don't know why the first assertion "assert(isinstance(value, int)), value" is needed as it just throws an AssertionError when the value is of the type np.int32

That is true. I removed the assertion and split np.int32 and int/long.

This is working now in my simulation and my unit tests. As that was the case before too though, we need to test this downstairs before merging
